Porridge with Cinnamon Steamed Pear  



For 1 serving 

  • 1/2 cup (45g) oats 

  • 1 cup (237ml) water 

  • 1/2 cup (118ml) almond milk 

  • 1 large pear, peeled, cut into quarters length wise and seeds removed 

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon 

  • Optional toppings: walnut crumb and natural yoghurt


  1. In a small pan on a medium-high heat add your chopped pear, cinnamon and a little bit of water so the bottom of the pan is covered in around 0.5cm high water. Place a lid over the pan and let the pears steam for about 5 minutes.

  2. Once the pears are nearly completely softened take the lid off and let the water completely evaporate. Now let the pears caramelise for a few minutes in the reduce cinnamon liquid! 

  3. Meanwhile, add the water and oats to a small pot and cook on a high heat until the mixture starts to bubble. Once bubbling reduce to a low-medium heat and add in the milk whilst continuously stirring. Cook the oats for about 5 minutes or until it is at your preferred consistency. 

  4. Add the oats to a bowl and top with the spiced pear wedges and other optional toppings!
